come -- bad coming from novato. this is a look at the golden gate bridge and the traffic looks good. we are following breaking news out of oakland where there is some kind of police action involving s.w.a.t. teams. ktvu channel 2 news reporter alex savidge joins us now at 13th and 19th streets. what is going on that you can see? >> reporter: lots of oakland police officers converged on this neighborhood this morning. they are focusing on a house that is about halfway down this block on the right-hand side and still quite a bit of police activity out here this morning. this is 13th avenue at 19th street and we do understand that the s.w.a.t. team is involved in whatever this situation is. now, i want to show you video we shot a few minutes ago this morning as we watched two people taken into custody. a man and a woman, both walked away in huffs by -- in handcuffs by officers. unclear why they were taken into custody. still unclear at this point exactly what this investigation, what this

s.w.a.t. operation is pertaining to. i did speak with an officer here who was blocking one of the streets, i asked her to give me some information on what is taking place. she said at this point she can't tell me anything so we are hoping at this point to speak with a commanding officer here on scene but does appear this operation whatever is taking place out here is wrapping up. they do appear to be wrapping up here again, two people taken into custody, a s.w.a.t. operation unfolding here in oakland. we are going to try and gather more information and be back later on in the newscast. for now live in oakland this morning, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. in overnight news, firefighters in oakland trying to figure out what caused a car to go up in flames. car was parked in the lower level parking lot of that apartment building on fruitvale avenue near east 16th street. about a dozen people had to be evacuated from the building but luckily no one was hurt. the chp says weather played a major role in a crash that shut down all lanes of northbound 680 near pleasnaton overnight. officers say the driver of a

big rig was headed down the sunol grade when he lost control and slid down the roadway blocking all lanes. the road was closed for more than two hours while crews cleaned up the wreck and the oil that was spilled on the road. the driver of the big rig received minor injuries but no other cars were involved. the chp is now trying to figure out if the driver was going too fast for the weather conditions. time now, just about 6:04 and the san francisco giants are the new national league champions. they beat the cardinals last night 9-0 and the world series with the detroit tigers starts tomorrow in san francisco. that should end it. and who else, scutaro and the giants have won the pennant. >> sure did. the rain was pouring down as the giants did it, completing their national league championship series comeback. they won three elimination games culminating last night with that 9-0 win over st. louis in game 7. the giants

las vegas police now searching for him. police say the 31-year-old man somehow got inside a closed area of the casino when nobody was there. they say he stole high value chips but probably won't be able to redeem them. >> what happens now is any hotel or casino for that matter can exchange their chips or do some things within their casino that make these chips virtually worthless. >> the suspect is from southern california, investigators say no weapons were involved and no one was confronted during the incident. well, chances appear slim for a u.n. proposed cease fire in syria during a muslim holiday this week. the u.n. arab league envoy to syria proposed that both sides lay down their arms during a four day muslim holiday that begins on friday. near the syrian government nor the opposition forces have committed to the truce. rebel fighters say they are willing to halt fire during the holiday but will respond if

attacked. 6:14. new this morning, we are taking a closer look at last night's final presidential debate in florida and some of the statements that were made. ktvu a alison burns in our washington, d.c. newsroom and you say both president obama and mitt romney twisted some of the facts, alison? >> reporter: this morning we are looking at what some nonpartisan political fact check groups are saying about the debate and they are giving mitt romney a pants on fire rating for saying the president went on an apology tour in the middle east and saying the u.s. navy is the smallest its been in almost 100 years. they are also accusing president obama of making a false claim when he said romney opposed any federal help for the auto industry and they say the president mischaracterized's romney's past statements about russia as america's top threat. as for some of the testy exchanges there were plenty of those like this one over visits to israel. >> you flew to egypt and to saudi arabia and to turkey and

iraq and by the way, you skipped israel, our closest friend in the region but you went to the other nations and by the way, they noticed that you skipped israel. >> when i went to israel as a candidate, i didn't take donors, i didn't attend fundraisers. i went to the holocaust museum there. >> reporter: president obama was clearly much more on the attack last night than mitt romney but there were some areas where they seemed to agree, a closer look at that during my next update. reporting live from washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. >> here in the bay area both democrats and republicans held debate watch parties. in san rafael voters gathered at the democratic campaign headquarters and the republican headquarters only a couple of blocks apart. both camps believe their candidate came out on top. >> i think president obama is articulate, fair and clear and i think he has experience

yesterday afternoon at a home in the city of selma, which is south of fresno. police arrested her godfather, no word yet if the girl has been brought back home to petaluma. the world's largest social network reports its quarterly earnings this afternoon. this is just its second quarterly report as a public company. facebook shares selling for less than half the initial public offering price, about $19 a share right now. and investors will want to hear if facebook is making progress towards increasing revenue on mobile ads. a modesto police sergeant facing charges of child molestation. 40-year-old robert hodges was arrested yesterday just hours after the police department found out about the allegations. now, hodges is accused of molesting a girl who is a member of his family between 2009 and 2010. he's a 15-year veteran of the police department. he has now been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. a new funding source could help provide free muni passes for san francisco youth. the examiner reports that muni

is expected to receive $6.7 million in federal money. some say that money should be used to help provide free muni passes for the city's low income use but three supervisor calling for improvements to the service. the municipal transportation agency board will discuss the funding at a meeting tomorrow. time now 6:18. let's get you out the door. sal, are you taking care of things on 880? >> yeah, looking at that dave and pam. right now it looks pretty good there on 880 north and southbound as you drive through. let's go out and take a look at a live picture there and you can see that the traffic is moving along very nicely on 880 north which is on the right and 880 south which is on the left. you can see also the bay bridge toll plaza has filled in. the metering lights are on, not too bad, though, and things seem to be drying off a little bit. still a little bit damp from last night's rain but better than yesterday and clear skies here at the toll plaza. if you're driving at san jose, it's a surprising -- it's surprising how good it looks so far. i think it is still early but looking pretty good on 101 and

17,600 workers and that purchase will be worth more than $2 million to apple. i.c.e. says it's making the change because blackberries no longer quote meet the technology needs of the agency. and keep an eye on yahoo when the markets open up. yahoo's ceo melissa meyer had better than expected third quarter results to share. she announced yahoo earned $3.2 billion in the quarter ending last month. that sent shares up nearly 5% in extended trading. right now looks like it's going to open up about 4 1/2 % and if the stock hits that price in the regular session, it will be the highest level since meyer took over as ceo. time now 6:22. scientists have been charged with manslaughter. where a controversial verdict was handed down after an earthquake killed more than 300 people. plus another pg&e controversy. whatcom is blaming for an error involving bay area pipelines. you disgust me.

new information about another controversy involving pg&e and pipeline safety. according to the "san francisco chronicle," pg&e declared pipelines in the east bay and san jose safe without proof of inspection. about 4 1/2 miles of gas pipelines are in question.

they run under martinez, newark, fremont and san jose. the pipelines were considered at risk of corrosion failures. pg&e blames faulty record keeping for the testing oversight. a concord teenager received the maximum sentence for running down and killing two bicyclists earlier this year. prosecutors say the 18-year-old driver was speeding when he hit a man in his -- and his 9-year- old daughter. he pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving. because he was 17 at the time of the crash, he sentenced to seven years in a juvenile facility but he will be released in about three years when he turns 21. in italy, six scientists and a former government official were convicted and found guilty of manslaughter for not properly warning the italian people about the risks of an earthquake. back in april 2009, the seven men traveled to the city of l'aquila which had seen an increase in earthquake activity. they issued to residents that a big earthquake was unlike.

it's unclear at this point exactly why those two people were taken into custody. we have tried to speak with someone here on scene. we have not been able to get information from that officer but we are told a spokesperson for the oakland police department will be coming out here at some point this morning to give us an update, a briefing on exactly what this situation is all about, but again, a s.w.a.t. situation unfolding here in this oakland neighborhood early this morning, s.w.a.t. officers converging on a house here, two people so far we have seen them taken into custody. it is unclear at this point exactly what this investigation or this s.w.a.t. operation is all about. we hope to get more information again in about an hour and a half or so when a spokesperson for the department is expected to be out here at this scene. for now we are live in oakland this morning, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. in exciting news this morning, the world series starts tomorrow in san francisco after the giants' victory over the st. louis cardinals. >> that should end it.

there's quite a bit of trash out here on the sidewalk, remnants of the 40,000 people who never lost hope that their giants would make it to the world series. now, from the get go, these fans were behind matt cain on the mound, they would not let up and it set the stage for the night. the fans were drenched from the downpour in the 8th inning but that did not stop them from seeing the giants take the pennant, this after being down three games to one in the series against the cardinals. the electricity could be felt in the stands in mccould havecove -- mccovey cove and in the streets. >> electrifying, incredible. >> once in a lifetime. you've got to go to the game. you can't miss it. >> are you planning on going to the world series? >> all i know is i have been a die hard giants fan since i was born and we are back in the world series and we are going to win this whole thing. >> reporter: this afternoon the

already sold out. about 8500 tickets are available on stub hub for games 1 and 2. the price range from $400 for standing room only to more than $44,000. more seats are up for grabs on craigslist where spots behind home plate are going for about $2000. also on sale, giants national league championship gear like that. coming up for you at 6:45 we will take you live to one san francisco business that is working hard right now to make as many shirts as they can. today the alameda county sheriff's office will release the name of a woman found dead after a house fire in castro valley last week. the fire started early last thursday morning and fire crews discovered her body once the flames were out. investigators say both the fire and the woman's death are suspicious. they are asking for the public's help in solving this case. the home belongs to a retired san francisco firefighter who has not been named as a

suspect. jury deliberations will continue today in the trial of the woman accused of killing east bay nursing student michellele. gisele esteban killed le last year because she thought le was having an affair with her ex- boyfriend. esteban's attorney says his client did it in a heat of passion. frederick dozier is accused of raping, beating and robbing three women in san francisco's mission district between june and december of last year. police say each attack was more vicious than the last. a citizen's tip led to dozier's arrest in january. students at washington elementary school in san jose will be trying to raise awareness this morning about pedestrian safety on their way to school. students, parents, teachers all participating in international walk to school month. as we know, between 2007 and 2009 washington elementary school came in third out of 406

santa clara county schools when it came to pedestrian, bicycle and traffic injuries and they are trying to change all that. >> good for them. 6:37 is the time right now. how is traffic looking around the bay area, sal? >> it's better today than it was yesterday, pam and dave. it's not raining quite as hard. it's a little wet out there but we don't have a lot of heavy rain for the commute and right now as we look at a crowded east shore freeway, you can see traffic is moving along pretty well despite all this crowding getting down to a crowded bainbridge toll plaza, it is stop and go at the plaza for about a 20 minute delay before you get to the metering lights. once you make it onto the span it does look good into san francisco. as we look at the santa clara valley northbound 85 near 17, there's a crash on the shoulder, a little bit of slow traffic approaching that, 101 is filling in now between the capital expressway and the mckee road turnoff, 280 looks relatively good getting up to

good morning. a lot of cloud cover continues to stream in here. it will be a cloudy day, now most of the rain is winding down but there are still some areas picking up decent rains. sausalito nearly 2 inches in the last day and a half. good morning to you. a quick look at some of the top stories we are following for you right now at 6:43. a missing petaluma teenager found safe in fresno county. ruby cruz mendoza was reportedly found yesterday afternoon in the house in the city of selma just south of fresno. police also arrested her godfather. we have new information we just got this into the ktvu newsroom about a car fire in oakland overnight. police now calling it suspicious. the car was parked in the lower level apartment building parking garage on fruitvale avenue right near east 16th street.

about a dozen people had to be evacuated. and overnight polls from last night's presidential debate indicate president obama was the winner. a cbs poll of uncommitted voters found that 53% thought the president came out on top compared with 23% for mitt romney and 24% who considered it a tie. this morning apple is said to -- set to unvale what could be the next must have gadget. janine de la vega joins us from san jose when the highly anticipated announcement about an ipad mini. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. in the next couple of hours you're going to start seeing the media and tech analysts and bloggers file into the california theater here in downtown san jose. you can see apple has put its logo all over there. everyone is expected to have the apple unvail its ipad mini. whenever there's a big announcement from apple it always generates a lot of speculation and rumors. analysts seem to think the new screen is 7.85 inches compared

to the ipad's 9.7. those in the industry speculate that apple wants to compete with amazon and google's smaller tablets. now, if that's the case, the price of the new ipad mini will be key. analysts speculate it could be priced anywhere from $249 to $320. >> there are a lot of people who are interested in the appl products but don't necessarily want to pay the apple prices and we know that amazon's pricing is generally lower than $200. if apple can get closer to that pricing, maybe they can convince some consumers who were thinking of going with amazon or a google tablet to go with an apple product. >> reporter: to get the price down, it is likely that apple will have to take away some of the bells and whistles off of the ipad mini but we won't know until this event gets underway at 10:00 a.m. usually the ceo tim cook makes an appearance at these sorts of events but it's unclear if he will be the one making the announcement today. coming up on mornings on 2, we will tell you why apple may also be trying to attract

children and an educational audience. reporting live from downtown san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a rare tornado touched down north of sacramento. here's video of a funnel cloud that touched down about 3:15 yesterday afternoon near yuba city in sutter county. the twister downed trees and powerlines but fortunately no one was hurt. later today, though, a storm survey team will be out there. this is the aftermath of a possible tornado in sacramento county. strong winds knocked over that truck in elk grove around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. the winds also knocked down fences and trees and damaged some roofs. several funnel clouds were reported in the area stretching east to the sierra foothills. 6:47. happening now, the san francisco giants are going to the world series and that is good news for local businesses too. ktvu's brian flores live in san francisco this morning where the giants' official t-shirt company is really busy this

morning. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yeah, you know, we have been talking about it all morning. the giants fever -- excitement, rather has reached a fever pitch and this is probably the hottest commodity out there. these shirts being printed out at graphic sports. i'm here with mike smith who is the sales manager here. first off i got to ask, how excited are you? >> we are excited. we are all giants fans here so excited. this is our fourth world series. >> reporter: talk about the process here. how many shirts are you planning on printing out and how fast can you get them out to the stores? >> well, we can print out 500 shirts an hour. we have six machines going, so we are planning to get -- we got out some last night before the game and we are going to do more and keep up with demand. >> reporter: how long is it going to take for you to print out the shirts? >> about by 11:00 so a five hour process. >> reporter: where can fans get the shirts? >> sold at the ballpark at the dugout stores throughout the bay area. >> reporter: these are the hottest commodities. get them at the dugout stores

the camera went out on us so go to the next one. westbound 580, we have slow traffic this morning as you head up to the livermore valley, you will see slow traffic from tracy to livermore, it gets better to dublin and then to castro valley you are going to see traffic that's moving well. over to 238 you will see some slow traffic here and then 880 southbound if you're driving let's say from hayward to union city, slow but after that, the drive into fremont looks good. across the san mateo and dunbarton bridge not too much of an issue over to the peninsula. bay bridge toll plaza backed up for about a 15 to 20 minute delay beyond the 880 overcrossing and the meter lights are on. cloudy skies, rain seems to be tapering off although some of the light drizzly stuff going on but nothing showing up on radar. sierra nevada a lot of reports from 6 inches to 12 inches, meadows came in with something along that nature, truckee, mammoth as well.

in the keys, active up there. for us we still get the cloud cover but so far not much going on. kevin in sausalito checking in with 1.920. san francisco over an inch. by the way, almost 1/2" of rain fell between the eighth and 9th inning last night and crockett our observer numerous reports of an inch to inch and a half. cloud cover and most of the snow now looks to be starting to -- you can see on the back edge the rain is ending, some of the snow still going but for another couple hours, i think by 11:00 most of it will be done, turn more to snow showers but plenty up there. 40s on the temps, very low 50s so it's a cool morning, cloudy and also throw in a little breeze definitely feels chilly out there. a lot of cloud cover, occasionally we could get more rain in here today but we need a few breaks in the clouds to generate any more thunderstorm activity. there was plenty of reports of hail and severe weather out in

the valley but for us just rain and a couple of thunderstorms, 60s on the temps today and i don't think they go anywhere today or tomorrow but they will be warming up a little bit as we head towards thursday, friday and saturday with the weekend always in view but again with so much rain there will be some inland valley fog popping up. >> thank you, steve. netflix will release its earnings report after today's closing bell. right now ahead of the report the stock is down about 1 1/3% but did gain about 4 1/2 % yesterday after reports that netflix is looking for new workers who were fluent in german, hnidy, turkish, dutch, japanese and korean. that could indicate more investment plans. today ikea announcing plans to rely completely on solar and wind energy in the next 10 years. ikea already has solar panels on top of 34 of its 38 u.s. stores and distribution centers and the swedish retailer says it will install more at its facilities around the world. time now 6:52.

well, disappointing earnings for multinational companies and a downgrade of spain is sparked renewed worries over the global economy. live look at the dow jones, it's down 179 points right now. time now 6:56. and in just a couple of hours, vallejo police are expected to announce a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest of unsolved killings of a vallejo man and his pregnant girlfriend. they were gunned down in their home on atherton street back on september 6th. police say they were targeted and the neighbors saw two men running from the scene. miss mills was expecting twins so police are now treating this case as having four victims.
